چکیده

In bike-sharing systems, a small percentage of the bicycles become unusable every day. Currently, there is no reliable on-line information that indicates the usability of bicycles. We present a model that estimates the probability that a specific bicycle is unusable as well as the number of unusable bicycles in a station, based on available trip transaction data. Further on, we present some information based enhancements of the model and discuss an equivalent model for detecting locker failures. & 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

On-line Dynamic Station Redeployments in Bike-Sharing Systems

Bike-sharing has seen great development during recent years, both in Europe and globally. However, these systems are far from perfect. The uncertainty of the customer demand often leads to an unbalanced distribution of bicycles over the time and space (congestion and/or starvation), resulting both in a loss of customers and a poor customer experience. In order to improve those aspects, we propo...

A Multi-commodity Pickup and Delivery Open-tour m-TSP Formulation for Bike Sharing Rebalancing Problem

Bike sharing systems (BSSs) offer a mobility service whereby public bikes, located at different stations across an urban area, are available for shared use. An important point is that the distribution of rides between stations is not uniformly distributed and certain stations fill up or empty over time. These empty and full stations lead to demand for bikes and return boxes that cannot be fulfi...

Pulse of the World’s Bicycles Towards Data-Driven Methods for the Design and Administration of Bicycle Sharing Systems

Bike sharing systems are emerging all over the world as a cheap, green, and healthy mode of public transit. While there is great variety in their implementation, at their core they are all similar: they consist of bike stations, each containing a number of docking points, from which bicycles may be borrowed and to which they may be returned. These systems suffer from a number of open problems: ...

Incentivizing Users for Balancing Bike Sharing Systems

Bike sharing systems have been recently adopted by a growing number of cities as a new means of transportation offering citizens a flexible, fast and green alternative for mobility. Setting Inventory Levels in a Bike Sharing Network

Bike Sharing Systems (BSSs) allow customers to rent bicycles at automatic rental stations distributed throughout a city, use them for a short period of time, and return them to any station. One of the major issues that BSS operators must address is non-homogeneous asymmetric demand processes. These demand processes create an inherent imbalance, thus leading to shortages of bicycles, when users ...
